Assam Government Announces Major Bureaucratic Reshuffle

In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Assam government has appointed and transferred several senior officials in order to enhance efficiency in public service and governance.

GUWAHATI: In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Assam government has appointed and transferred several senior officials in order to enhance efficiency in public service and governance.

According to the Government of India’s notification (No.14015/03/2024-AIS (I)-B, dated February 20, 2025), Kuntal Moni Sarmah Bordoloi, IAS, has been appointed to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) from the Select List of 2023. He will now serve as Joint Secretary to the Government of Assam’s Industries, Commerce, and Public Enterprises Department. Additionally, Bordoloi has been given the additional charge of Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Chief Minister of Assam.

Notably, the state government has issued new postings and transfers within the Assam Civil Service (ACS):

• Richard Rongpi, ACS, who had been awaiting posting, has been appointed as Under Secretary to the Government of Assam, Fishery Department.

• Dhiraj Saud, ACS, who was on deputation to the Welfare of Bodoland Department as Secretary of the Bodoland Territorial Council and Additional Director of the Bodoland Administrative Staff College in Kokrajhar, has been repatriated. He will now serve as Joint Secretary to the Government of Assam, Personnel Department.

• Ruth Lienthang, ACS, who previously held the position of Joint Secretary to the Government of Assam, Personnel Department, has been transferred and appointed as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Zilla Parishad in Hailakandi. However, she will remain in her current role until Dhiraj Saud takes over her position.
