The Karikori Youth Association in Assam is advocating for job opportunities for local residents at NR

A crucial meeting of the Karikori Youth Association from Golaghat district took place today at the ITI in Bokakhat.

The gathering, chaired by President Arshaf Ali, featured Secretary Nayanjyoti Mazumdar, who articulated the association’s goals. In his speech, Mazumdar emphasized the lack of employment opportunities for local youth at the Numaligarh Refinery’s processing plant, which was established in Golaghat district in honor of 855 martyrs. The meeting saw the participation of over two hundred educated local youths, who collectively insisted that employment opportunities in the refinery’s expansion project should prioritize local candidates over those from outside the region.

In response, the refinery authorities, along with the Golaghat District Commissioner, have resolved to submit a memorandum to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, local legislator Mrinal Saikia, and Bishwajit Phukan. This memorandum will advocate for the prioritization of local youth for permanent positions during the initial phase of the expansion project. Additionally, Secretary Mazumdar informed the media that should the refinery authorities fail to address the association’s demands in a timely manner, the Karikori Youth Association will initiate a democratic movement involving local youth to assert their rights.
