Dhubri: In his initial series of panchayat poll review meetings, Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary engaged in discussions with party members and held a press conference with local media at the BJP district office on Tuesday.
He announced that the BJP and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) would collaborate in the panchayat elections within Dhubri district, detailing the seat-sharing arrangement. The BJP will contest four seats in Golakganj, two in Gauripur, three in Dhubri, and four in Bairsingh for Zilla Parishad member positions, while at the Anchalik level, they will vie for 17 seats in Golakganj, 25 in Gauripur, and 16 in Dhubri.
The AGP will field candidates for four seats in Golakganj, four in Gauripur, and two in Dhubri. Minister Patowary expressed optimism regarding support from Muslim voters, attributing this to the BJP’s developmental initiatives in the region, including the establishment of a medical college, enhanced road infrastructure, and improvements in the education system. He also outlined future plans to elevate Dhubri into a significant commercial center, mentioning Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s announcement for the development of the Dhubri port, which will feature a modern integrated office complex, a new warehouse, and improved road connectivity to facilitate trade with Bhutan and Bangladesh. These advancements are anticipated to significantly influence the upcoming panchayat elections in Dhubri, according to the minister.
