In Khatkhati, Assam, an unidentified substance is being expelled from a borewell

KHERONI: A troubling event transpired during the drilling of a 420-foot deep borewell intended for summer sable at the home of Shankar Kumar in Gautam Basti, adjacent to the CRPF Group Centre, under Khatkhati PS, Karbi Anglong. The drilling activity resulted in the unexpected release of unidentified substances, including an unknown gas and residual mud, which forcefully emerged from the borewell site.

In light of this incident, the Additional District Magistrate in charge (i/c) of Bokajan Sub-Division, Karbi Anglong district, has enacted stringent restrictions. All movement of individuals and materials is forbidden within a 200-meter radius of the borewell site until further notice. This prohibition will remain effective pending the final analysis report of the residual mud from the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Laboratory in Dehradun, which will ascertain the presence of any trapped gases, and until a specialized team from the Geological Survey of India performs an on-site evaluation. Authorities have called upon the public to adhere to these restrictions to ensure safety while investigations are ongoing.
