On Thursday, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the site of the thermal power plant located at Chirakuta, Charuwa Bakra, Bilasipara in Dhubri district to evaluate its potential and strategize development initiatives. Assam is striving for energy self-sufficiency through increased power generation, and the establishment of new thermal power plants is a significant step towards this goal, according to an official.
The 3500 bigha site, which is well-connected by both road and rail and situated near the Gaurang river for hydroelectric needs, is projected to create 10,000 jobs once operational and employ 25,000 workers during the construction phase.
Last month, a Director from the Adani Group visited the same 3,500-bigha site for their proposed thermal power plant at Basbari in the Parbatjhora Sub-division of Kokrajhar district, shortly after a meeting with Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. This meeting focused on the execution of the Adani Group’s pledge to invest Rs 50,000 crore in Assam, which was made during the Advantage Assam 2.0 event. Jeet Adani’s team also inspected two locations: one in Bilasipara of Dhubri district and another near Basbari in Kokrajhar district.
An official from the Dhubri district administration indicated that the Adani Power Division intends to develop the largest thermal power plant in Assam to address the increasing power demands within the state.
