Hema Malini reminisced about performing action sequences as Basanti in Ramesh Sippy’s ‘Sholay’, which celebrated its 50th anniversary of release on Friday. In an exclusive conversation with IANS, Hema Malini was inquired, “You executed stunts in the film. How did you accomplish that?” In her discussion with IANS, the actress and politician disclosed that she has undertaken stunts in numerous films. “Fight sequences were specifically crafted in the films for me — ‘If Hema Malini is in the film, we must include a fight.’ Regardless of the character I portray, there had to be a fight scene,” she stated. Regarding ‘Sholay’, Hema Malini mentioned: “There were action sequences in Sholay as well, but they primarily occurred while traveling in the tanga (Horse Cart) — the dacoits are all pursuing me.
There is a remarkably beautiful chase scene in the film. Every scene in the movie is a moving shot; nothing remains static.” She expressed her intention to show ‘Sholay’ to her grandchildren. When asked, “We are discussing Sholay even after fifty years. You have grandchildren. Have they seen Sholay?” Hema Malini responded: “I don’t believe so, but now that it has reached its fifty-year milestone, I will definitely show it to them. I will arrange for them to sit in my home one day and watch it in a mini theatre.” She also revealed that initially, she felt dissatisfied with her role in Sholay, as she perceived it to be minor compared to her previous successful films like ‘Sita and Geeta’.
