A national seminar was conducted at Golaghat Devraj Roy College in Assam

GOLAGHAT: A two-day national seminar commenced today at the Department of Economics, Golaghat Devraj Roy College. According to a press release from DR College Golaghat, Deb Kumar Chakraborty, the Dean of Dibrugarh University and a prominent economist in the state, served as a speaker at the seminar titled ‘Women Empowerment and Rural Development through the Use of Indigenous Technology,’ where he elaborated on the subject matter.

In his address, Dr. Chakraborty emphasized the significant role women play in societal development, stating, “Empowering women is essential for achieving rural development. When considering innovative approaches to rural advancement, equal efforts must be made to uplift women.” He cited various national and international examples, encouraging women to participate in productive endeavors. Additionally, he unveiled the annual ‘News Letter’ of the Department of Economics at Golaghat Debraj Roy College.

During a discussion led by Devashish Bhuyan and Madhusmita Gogoi, Dr. Kajal Saikia, the chief guest from the Human Resource Department of Numaligarh Refinery, commended the initiative taken by Golaghat Debraj Roy College and pledged full support from the Numaligarh Refinery Authority. Dr. Pranjal Pratim Borgohain, a professor in the Department of Economics at Dibrugarh University, also contributed as a speaker, detailing the empowerment of women in Bangladesh during the 1970s through the establishment of self-help groups under the guidance of Mohammad Yunus. He further analyzed the current global situation.

Notable speakers at the event included Dr. Nripen Barua, Professor of Economics at Birangana Sati Sadhani State University, Dr. Jitu Saikia, Professor of Sociology, Dr. Partha Pratim Bora, Vice-Principal Gayatri Sharma Tamuli, Dr. Jadumani Das, Head of the Department of Economics, and Dean of Arts Dr. Debajit Phukan, among others.

Approximately 71 research papers from various states were reviewed during the seminar. The book titled ‘The Economy of Assam,’ edited by Prof Dr Debajit Phukan, Prof Dr Sanjoy Saha, and Prof Dr Hemanta Saikia, was launched by Golaghat District Commissioner Pulak Mahanta. The welcome address was given by Dr Jayanta Barukial, the Principal of Devraj Roy College. Around 30 research papers are scheduled to be presented at the seminar.
