JAMUGURIHAT: Pinki Mudoi, a resident of Pithaguri Dol in Karchantala under the Jamuguri Police Station of Sonitpur District, has emerged as a remarkable example of self-sufficiency. Following the loss of her husband four years ago, Pinki faced significant challenges but chose not to seek charity from neighbors or friends. Instead, she embraced self-reliance to support her only child and sustain her livelihood.
Taking a bold step, she secured a loan from a local Self Help Group to purchase an E-rickshaw, which she operates during the day while selling chicken in the evenings. She sources broiler chicken from a nearby wholesaler, preparing and selling it after dressing.
Through her determination, Pinki has nearly completed the repayment of her e-rickshaw loan, with only a few installments remaining. Pinki has become a source of inspiration in her community, contrasting sharply with many youths who spend excessive time on social media. She fosters positive relationships with her customers, who often wait for her e-rickshaw, affectionately known as Tom-Tom.
Now self-sufficient, Pinki manages her family’s needs with confidence. In an interview, she emphasized the importance of engaging in meaningful work rather than chasing the superficial allure of social media. She encouraged local youth to create job opportunities in their own communities instead of seeking employment abroad.
