Education Minister Ranoj Pegu has announced the cancellation of the remaining subjects for the Higher Secondary (HS) First Year Examination 2025, which was set to take place from March 24 to March 29. This decision follows allegations of a question paper leak and violations of examination protocols.
The cancellation was prompted by the revelation that certain institutions had unlawfully opened the seal on the Class 11 Mathematics question papers prior to the official examination date, resulting in a leak. Minister Pegu confirmed the cancellation and indicated that further actions will be determined in a board meeting scheduled for March 24.
He also noted that ASSEB has suspended the affiliations of 15 private schools across 10 districts due to their involvement in this incident. Reports suggest that sealed packets of mathematics question papers, which were meant to remain unopened until the exam, were accessed prematurely by some institutions on March 20. This incident raised alarms regarding the potential leakage of other subject papers, prompting the board to act swiftly.
The Board has instructed all institutions to return the question papers for the remaining subjects to the designated lead colleges for secure storage. Officials have assured that necessary measures will be implemented to maintain the integrity of the examination process. Previously, officials in Assam’s Barpeta district opted to cancel the class 9 English annual exam scheduled for March 20 after the question paper was leaked on social media.
