Assam and Meghalaya Engage in Crucial Discussions in Guwahati, Commit to Collaborative Advancement in Development

GUWAHATI: In a notable initiative aimed at addressing various inter-state matters between Assam and Meghalaya, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma engaged in detailed discussions on several critical issues with Meghalaya’s Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, during the Chief Ministers’ Level Meeting held in Guwahati. During this meeting, both Assam and Meghalaya acknowledged that development in their respective states is interdependent and emphasized the necessity of collaborating to progress along the development path.

Furthermore, Assam and Meghalaya have committed to advancing the Kulsi Irrigation project, which is intended to benefit farmers in both states and will be financed by the Government of Assam. In addition, both states plan to jointly construct the 55 MW Kulsi Power Project following consultations with local communities. The discussions also addressed the ongoing Assam-Meghalaya border dispute. “Of the six boundary disputes that have been resolved, there are some minor issues that will be addressed shortly through discussions among the relevant parties, and boundary pillars will be established. The remaining six disputed locations will be settled at a mutually acceptable time,” stated CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on his official X account.
