GUWAHATI: Bhaskar Tamuly, an actor and fitness trainer, has been apprehended following a harassment complaint filed by a young woman at the Panbazar Women Police Station in Guwahati. This incident has garnered significant public attention due to Tamuly’s prominence in both the entertainment and fitness industries. According to the woman’s allegations, Tamuly allegedly threatened to disseminate her photographs on social media, a claim that has led the police to register a case (Case No. 39/25) under multiple provisions of the recently enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Sections 123, 351(3), 78, 79, 296, and 117(2).
Additionally, the authorities have invoked relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, specifically Sections 67 and 67(a), which pertain to the publication or transmission of obscene material in electronic formats. Following the filing of the complaint, Tamuly was swiftly arrested and is currently being held at the Panbazar Women Police Station. He is scheduled to appear in court the following day, where investigators are expected to request his custody for further interrogation and evidence gathering. The police have emphasized their commitment to addressing the case with utmost seriousness, given the gravity of the allegations and the presence of digital evidence.
