Assam Cabinet Approves Key Initiatives for Economic Growth and Education Regulation

Assam Cabinet approves measures to regulate coaching institutes, establish Mega Industrial Parks, and set up Driver Training Centres.

GUWAHATI: In a fruitful meeting, the Assam Cabinet has declared various important decisions meant to improve the economic scenario and educational system of the state.

Among those major decisions taken were steps to regulate coaching institutes, create Mega Industrial Parks, and set up Driver Training Centres.

In response to the exponential rise in coaching institutes, the Cabinet approved the “Assam Coaching Institutes (Control & Regulation) Act, 2025,” which will safeguard the rights of students and offer them appropriate academic guidance. This is one step towards ensuring fair practices in education.

In an attempt to strengthen the industrial sector, the Cabinet has approved the setting up of Mega Industrial Parks in Kamrup and Morigaon districts and a Smart township in Hajo, Kamrup. The move is likely to give a boost to investor confidence and the industrial ecosystem of the region.

Also, the Cabinet has sanctioned the establishment of Accredited Driver Training Centres (ADTC) with Automated Driver Testing Tracks (ADTT) to make the process of issuing driving licenses more efficient. Five such centres are being built and are expected to be functional within five months.

The Cabinet also discussed the inclusion of Majuli and Sivasagar as UNESCO World Heritage sites, with an emphasis on protecting Assam’s cultural heritage. Further, measures were taken for ensuring the proper conduct of NEET exams by asking the National Testing Agency to conduct exams in government schools with proper supervision.

Lastly, the Cabinet approved ₹21.52 crore for SIDBI Cluster Development Fund schemes to encourage well-balanced economic growth through MSMEs.
