GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has called on the state education board to annul the Class XI examinations in light of allegations regarding a question paper leak. This situation has raised significant concerns regarding the integrity and fairness of the examination process within the state.
Reports indicate that the leaked question papers were disseminated on social media platforms, prompting swift action from the education department authorities. The Chief Minister’s request aims to uphold the credibility of the examination system and ensure that students are assessed in a fair and transparent manner. Previously, the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) had postponed the remaining subjects of the Higher Secondary (HS) First Year Examination 2025, originally scheduled for March 24 to 29, due to reports of a question paper leak and breaches of protocol.
This decision followed the discovery that certain institutions had prematurely opened the seal of the Class 11 Mathematics question papers, leading to the leak. Education Minister Ranoj Pegu confirmed the cancellation and mentioned that further decisions would be made during a board meeting on March 24. He also noted that ASSEB had suspended the affiliations of 15 private schools across 10 districts due to their involvement in the incident.
Reports suggest that sealed packets of mathematics question papers, which were not supposed to be accessed until the exam day, were opened by some institutions on March 20. This incident raised concerns about potential leaks of other subject papers, prompting an immediate response from the board.
