Assam Chief Minister Discloses Connection Between Indian Nationals and Pakistan in Current Investigation

GUWAHATI: In a notable development, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is investigating possible links between certain Indian nationals and Pakistan, as part of a broader inquiry into alleged associations with the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

This investigation is focused on a case involving the spouse of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and a Pakistani individual. The SIT, established by the Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam, is examining serious allegations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and various provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The charges relate to unlawful activities and other criminal offenses, specifically under Sections 48, 61, 152, and 197(1) of the IPC, as well as Section 13(1) of the UAPA. To facilitate a comprehensive investigation, a team of seasoned officers has been designated, with the capacity to incorporate Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors, and Constables as necessary, subject to approval from the Assam Police Headquarters. CM Sarma underscored the importance of the investigation, urging the SIT to finalize its findings by September 2025. This inquiry has raised significant concerns regarding national security and the potential ramifications of foreign involvement in domestic matters, underscoring the need for a meticulous review of the evidence and relationships involved.
