Assam: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma states that this is the optimal time for investment in the state

GUWAHATI: In a call to electronic component manufacturers to invest in Assam, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the interest from investors in Assam is at an unprecedented level. “This is the optimal time to invest in Assam. Our current advantage is the absence of overwhelming competition, which enables us to provide personalized attention to each investor considering the state,” he remarked.

While addressing the Assam Electronics Roundtable-2025 in New Delhi today, the Chief Minister noted, “Our government is highly adaptable to the requirements of the industry. We are prepared to engage directly with investors to comprehend their needs and develop policies accordingly. I encourage you to visit Assam to observe the transformations we are implementing.” The Chief Minister highlighted that Tata’s semiconductor facility in Jagiroad has significantly altered the industrial landscape in Assam.

“We are planning to establish an electronic manufacturing city named after Ratan Tata. Discussions are ongoing with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for financial support. There is substantial potential for growth in Assam’s electronic sector. With the forthcoming semiconductor facility at Jagiroad and our progressive policies, there is much for the industry to anticipate.” The Chief Minister added, “We have already implemented an electronic component manufacturing policy that aligns with the Government of India’s policy. Our electronic policy is straightforward. Any incentives provided by the Government of India will be supplemented by an additional 60 percent of that amount within seven days of the central government’s allocation to the industry.

We are eliminating all obstacles, as due diligence will be conducted by the Government of India.” He further mentioned that Rs 25,000 crore has been allocated as a corpus fund for production-linked incentives and additional schemes. He emphasized that one of Assam’s advantages in the electronics sector is its abundant talent pool, supported by a robust network of IITs, engineering colleges, and Assam Skill.

He stated that, from a geographical perspective, Assam is positioned as the most advantageous location for the execution of India’s Act East Policy. “We possess geographical benefits due to our proximity to Southeast Asia, alongside challenges such as connectivity bottlenecks with the remainder of India. Nevertheless, the majority of these connectivity issues have been resolved,” he remarked, further adding, “Once the political turmoil in Southeast Asia subsides, the rest of India will engage in trade with Southeast Asia via Assam. Assam aspires to become a preferred hub for advanced electronic manufacturing and semiconductor operations. I eagerly anticipate collaborating with you to reshape the electronic landscape of Assam.
