GUWAHATI: The closing ceremony of the inaugural Under-23 National Basketball Championship (Men-Women) took place at Sarusajai Stadium, attended by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Organized by the Assam Basketball Association in collaboration with the Basketball Federation of India (BFI), the championship underscored the Assam Government’s commitment to advancing basketball. This championship has significantly enhanced Assam’s sports scene, reflecting the state’s dedication to achieving excellence in athletics. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his sincere congratulations to all the participants.
Earlier, the men’s basketball team from Assam commenced their campaign in the U-23 National Basketball Championship at the Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium with a victory, defeating Goa with a score of 78-61 in their first match.
In contrast, the Assam women’s team encountered difficulties in their initial game, suffering a defeat against Rajasthan with a score of 66-49. Although they started strong, Assam was unable to sustain their early advantage. Additionally, the women’s team faced another loss, this time against Haryana, with a close score of 69-75 during the U-23 National Basketball Championship at the same venue.
The Assam men’s team also experienced a setback, losing to Andhra Pradesh with a score of 57-90, despite their earlier success against Goa. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Maharashtra advanced to the women’s quarterfinals.
