Assam: Gaurav Gogoi has been appointed as the President of the State Congress

GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) appears to be preparing for the 2026 Assembly election in the state with the appointment of Jorhat and AICC’s deputy leader MP Gaurav Gogoi as its president. “Congress President has appointed Gaurav Gogoi as the president and three working presidents of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, effective immediately,” stated AICC general secretary KC Venugopal today. The three working presidents include Jakir Hussain Sikdar, Roselina Tirkey, and Pradip Sarkar.

The party acknowledges the contributions of the outgoing PCC president Bhupen Kumar Borah. “Roselina Tirkey is being relieved of her current responsibilities as AICC secretary,” Venugopal added. The Congress president has also sanctioned the proposal for the appointment of chairpersons for the election management committee, campaign committee, coordination committee, manifesto committee, publicity committee, and election management committee of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, effective immediately,” Venugopal stated. Ripun Bora has been designated as the chairman of the election management committee, while outgoing president Bhupen Kumar Borah will serve as chairperson of the campaign committee.

Debabrata Saikia will lead the coordination committee, MP Pradyut Bordoloi will chair the manifesto committee, and MP Rakibul Hussain will be the chairperson of the publicity committee. Following his appointment as the president of the APCC, Gaurav Gogoi expressed his gratitude, stating, “I am thankful to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition (Lok Sabha) Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal, and Jitendra Singh (the party’s in-charge for the state) for placing their trust in me for this role. Former Pradesh Congress Committee President Bhupen Kumar Borah has led the party admirably and has made significant contributions.

It is a privilege to collaborate with so many committed and inspiring senior leaders and workers within the Congress party in Assam. Born on September 4, 1982, to former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Dolly Gogoi, Gaurav Gogoi, a three-time MP, received his education at St Columba’s School in Delhi. He earned his B. Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering in 2024 from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi, and holds a Master of Public Administration from New York University.
