TINSUKIA: Interaction programs between farmers and scientists focused on crop and livestock management took place at Maithong and Tongona Gaon Panchyats as part of the extensive national initiative, Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, throughout Tinsukia district. This event was organized under the guidance of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Tinsukia on Tuesday, attracting over 400 farmers and farm women. The Directorate of Extension Education AAU Jorhat supported this farmer-scientist interaction.
Dr. Hemchandra Saikia, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Tinsukia, further explained that the primary objective of these interactions was to equip participating farmers with appropriate knowledge and techniques for the scientific and modern cultivation of crops and livestock management, ultimately aimed at enhancing production, productivity, and income. Scientists from KVK Tinsukia, including Mrinmoy Chetia, Priyanka Amonge, Dr. Gautami Dutta, Dr. Nilim Kalita, Dr. Kripal Borah, Dr. Sarodee Boruah, and Dr. Bijit Saud, provided valuable insights to the participating farmers on improving their livelihood index.
This team also emphasized the adoption of improved practices in crop cultivation and livestock management, strategies to boost productivity and income in agriculture and related sectors, better soil health management, water management, value addition, processing, and marketing to enhance the economic status of the farming community. Officials from various line departments also engaged with the farmers.
