Assam is set to initiate the Northeast’s inaugural pumped storage hydroelectric project

GUWAHATI: In a noteworthy advancement, Assam is preparing to initiate the Northeast’s inaugural Pumped Storage Project (PSP), a cutting-edge hydroelectric storage system aimed at enhancing grid stability and addressing peak power requirements. This initiative represents a significant stride in fortifying the region’s energy infrastructure and is part of the Greenko Group’s substantial investment of Rs 12,000 crore in the state.

The commencement of construction is anticipated to take place this year, marking a pivotal moment for Assam’s energy sector, as Greenko Group had previously pledged this investment during the #AdvantageAssam2 summit. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently convened a follow-up meeting with representatives from the company to assess progress and establish timelines, confirming that work is expected to begin within the year, as he shared on his official X account.

In his post, CM Sarma stated, “Had a productive follow-up meeting with the Greenko Group on their investment commitments made during #AdvantageAssam2. We are expecting work to commence on over ₹12,000 cr of power-related projects before the year. One such effort is the Northeast’s first Pump Storage Project (PSP), a new hydroelectric storage system to ensure grid stability and meet peak power demand.”
