Assam: Lekhika Samaroh Unit Celebrates ‘Phagunor Eti Abeli’ in Doomdooma

The new executive body of Doomdooma Sakha Lekhika Samaroh Samiti (DSLSS) celebrated ‘Phagunor eti abeli’ (one afternoon of Assamese month Phagun having duration from Mid-February to mid – March)

DOOMDOOMA: The new executive body of Doomdooma Sakha Lekhika Samaroh Samiti (DSLSS) celebrated ‘Phagunor eti abeli’ (one afternoon of Assamese month Phagun having duration from Mid-February to mid – March) at its venue at Bir Raghav Moran path, Rupaisiding on Saturday with newly elected President Dibyalata Deka in the chair.

The programme got underway with a borgeet rendered by Jinu Gohain. Noted poet Sarifa Khatun Chaudhury delivered a beautiful speech on the month of Phagun and held the audience spellbound by reciting some of her self-composed poems.

Thereafter, senior member and AIR artist Bina Devi Bardoloi delivered a brief speech on the westernly wind that comes in accompaniment with the month of Phagun and presented an enchanting song bearing the flavour of Phagun. She exhorted the members to engage themselves in the discussion of Assamese folk culture and read the poems of Kabiguru Rabindra Nath Tagore.

Member Kiranmoy Hazarika Baruah made a review of the books published by the branch and put forward the suggestion to publish such a book on the review. The event featured recitation of poems by poet and immediate past president Indu Dutta Uzir, members Nirupama Saikia and Manisha Phukan, a beautiful dance performance by immediate past secretary Sangeeta Baruah Deka, and a song sung by Jyostsna Buragohain.

Besides this, Anjali Borah and Archana Borah narrated their feelings about the month of Phagun. Chitralekha Sonowal read a beautiful letter on the Pasawa—the westerly wind. 

The meeting was anchored by the Secretary Ranjita Gogoi Baruah and  was attended by Ruby, a young woman from Jharkhand, who performed a beautiful song. On the other hand, the audience roared with laughter when Junu Bora shared her humorous experiences during the Phagun days.  The secretary, Ranjita Gogoi Baruah, paid birthday tribute to the eminent poet Deva Kanta Baruah by reciting his poem “Sagar Dekhisha.”. 

The enjoyable afternoon came to an end with the singing of Axam Sangeet ‘Oh mor aponar dekh.’
