Assam: NRL initiates various projects in Sankar Beel

GOLAGHAT: Today, an ambitious initiative focused on fisheries was launched in Sankar Beel, Morangi Saror Gaon, under the direct guidance of the Social Development Department of Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL). A meeting was convened, attended by Dr. Kajal Saikia, Chief General Manager of the Social Development and Human Resources Department of NRL, along with General Manager Mintu Handique, Senior Manager Paresh Baishya, Deputy General Manager Bishwa Mohan Bora, the District Fisheries Officer, the Morangi Revenue Circle Officer, and other local dignitaries.

At the conclusion of the meeting, two quintals of various fish species, including advanced varieties of Rohu, Bahu, Grass carp, and Kamal cut, were released into the beel. Plans were established to gradually reopen the fish ponds, with a goal of cultivating fish in the Beel on an experimental basis, starting with a total of 30 quintals of fresh fish.

It is noteworthy that on August 29, 2024, efforts were initiated to clean the villages of Morangi Sar, Pani Kora, and Bholaguri Sankar Beel, situated just below National Highway 39. Additionally, there are plans to develop rural tourism around various water bodies, with a boat race scheduled for April 22. Furthermore, it was agreed to implement a solar irrigation system for farmers, enabling them to cultivate their fields and allowing local residents to engage in agricultural activities throughout the year.
