DIBRUGARH: Today, Assam Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika conducted an inspection of the ongoing anti-erosion initiatives from Maijan to Mohanaghat in Dibrugarh. This project, designed to address the persistent problem of riverbank erosion in the area, has achieved significant progress, with 95% of the work completed.
During his visit, Minister Hazarika expressed his approval of both the speed and quality of the ongoing efforts. In remarks to the media, he stated, “Our government is fully dedicated to tackling flood and erosion issues under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. These initiatives represent a significant advancement in ensuring the safety and stability of the riverbank regions in Dibrugarh.
The project is anticipated to greatly reinforce the river embankments, providing essential relief to residents in areas vulnerable to erosion. On X, Pijush Hazarika shared, “With an investment of Rs 78 crore, we are utilizing geo bags, aprons, and porcupines to protect Dibrugarh City from the erosion caused by the Brahmaputra. Today, alongside my cabinet colleague @Pras21758Phukan, I inspected the ongoing works to ensure the city’s safety.” Hazarika also visited Khowang Kolowlowa Deori Gaon and Khamatighat No. 3 Charaihabi to evaluate the anti-erosion efforts and instructed officials to complete all tasks within the designated timeframe.
