Assam: Principal detained on charges of sexually harassing a minor

NAGAON: A headmaster has been apprehended for allegedly sexually harassing a 14-year-old student within the school grounds. Arun Kumar Medhi, the Headmaster of Laogaon High School, is accused of molesting a ninth-grade student under the pretense of offering extra mathematics tutoring.

Reports indicate that the incident occurred on Saturday when Medhi requested the student to remain after class for additional assistance. He allegedly took her to a secluded room on the school premises, where the assault took place. The victim regained consciousness on the floor, prompting significant local outrage. Community members protested and physically confronted Medhi upon his return to the school the following day.

Police intervened, rescuing him and subsequently placing him in custody. An FIR has been lodged against him under Section 75 BNS and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The Nagaon Police confirmed his arrest, and he was later presented in a local court, which ordered his remand to judicial custody.
