The town of Dhekiajuli was filled with life on March 14 and 15 as its residents joyfully celebrated Holi, the lively festival of colors, with great enthusiasm and adherence to tradition. The two-day event featured community gatherings, cultural performances, and devotional rituals at Naamghars and Satras, alongside the exuberant throwing of colors, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region. The festivities commenced on Friday with special Naam Kirtan at Naamghars and Satras, where devotees assembled to seek blessings and engage in spiritual discussions. The melodious recitation of Naam Kirtan, which consists of devotional songs dedicated to Lord Krishna, filled the air, fostering an atmosphere of tranquility and devotion throughout the various Satras and Naamghars in Dhekiajuli Co-District. Additionally, many devotees participated in traditional rituals linked to Doul Utsav, a distinctive Holi celebration rooted in Assam’s Vaishnavite tradition.
At the Sirajuli Satra in the Dhekiajuli Co-District, Ras-Leela performances illustrated significant moments from Lord Krishna’s life, captivating the audience. The Head Satradhikar guided the assembly in prayer, highlighting the themes of love, unity, and devotion that Holi embodies. On Saturday morning, the streets of Dhekiajuli came alive with individuals of all ages, adorned in vibrant colors. Both children and adults joyfully applied gulal (colored powder) on one another and sprayed colored water, reflecting the essence of togetherness and happiness. The festive ambiance was further enhanced by traditional music and dance, featuring Bihu and folk dances associated with Holi. This year’s Holi celebrations in Dhekiajuli showcased the town’s rich cultural and spiritual legacy. Over the course of two days, residents engaged in rituals, vibrant colors, and a spirit of community, reinforcing the enduring message of Holi—the celebration of life, love, and the victory of good over evil. The combination of devotion at the Naamghars and Satras, along with the exuberant color festivities in the streets, rendered this year’s celebrations truly memorable.
