Assam: World Sparrow Day celebrated in Numaligarh

NUMALIGARH: To commemorate World Sparrow Day, an environmental awareness program was held at Bordihingia Lower Primary School yesterday. The event featured Jatin Kakati, a retired principal from Kamargaon Girls’ High School, who discussed the importance of the day and the community’s role in conservation efforts.

Maheswar Robidas, another speaker at the event, pointed out the decline of sparrow populations in rural areas, attributing it to the loss of traditional bamboo houses and a decrease in available food sources. He stressed the urgent need for conservation initiatives to safeguard this species.

The program also saw the participation of retired teacher Mukheswar Saikia, former gaon panchayat president Lukeswar Hazarika, and Aaranyak Project Officer Arif Hussain. The event was facilitated by Mahen Doley, the Principal of Bordihingia Lower Primary School.
