Assam’s Chief Minister and a Union Minister engage in discussions regarding the revitalization of Silsako Beel and the Jal Jeevan initiative

NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma convened with Union Minister of Jal Shakti, CR Paatil, at the latter’s official residence in New Delhi to deliberate on significant water conservation and management initiatives within the state.

The meeting, which lasted around 30 minutes, concentrated on the revitalization of Silsako Beel, an essential wetland in Assam, as well as various ongoing projects associated with the Jal Jeevan Mission. The discussions were aimed at developing strategies for the restoration of Silsako Beel while ensuring the effective execution of the Jal Jeevan Mission to improve water supply infrastructure throughout the state.

After the meeting, CM Sarma took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to provide updates on their discussions. He stated, “Today in New Delhi, I had a very productive meeting with Hon’ble Union Minister Shri @CRPaatil Ji.

We discussed plans for rejuvenating Silsako Beel and key elements of the Jal Jeevan Mission’s implementation in Assam.” Silsako Beel has been a focal point in Assam’s wetland conservation initiatives, with the state government actively working to restore and maintain its ecological integrity. In addition, the Jal Jeevan Mission remains crucial in ensuring access to clean drinking water for rural households across Assam. This meeting is anticipated to strengthen collaborative efforts between the Assam government and the central authorities.
