Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the first robotic surgery facility in Northeast India at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on April 13, coinciding with the Bohag Bihu celebrations and heralding a significant advancement in the state’s medical landscape. This facility aims to provide cost-effective, minimally invasive, and precise oncological surgeries, significantly improving patient care.
The cutting-edge surgical equipment utilized is proudly manufactured in India, reflecting the nation’s growing capabilities in advanced medical technology. In a spirited announcement on his official X account, CM Sarma highlighted the opening of this pioneering center, while also outlining plans to establish similar robotic surgery facilities in Silchar and Dibrugarh, thereby broadening access to advanced treatment across Assam.
To support this technological leap, he revealed that nursing colleges will be established in all cancer hospitals in the state, offering courses in English, Japanese, and other international languages to cultivate a skilled workforce adept in modern medical technologies. Emphasizing the importance of robotic assistance in healthcare, the Chief Minister previously noted on X that Medi JARVIS would aid doctors in their critical tasks, marking a pivotal step towards positioning Assam as a center for medical expertise and innovation.
