In Jorhat, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a vigorous critique against Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia and Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi. During the inaugural Panchayat election meeting at Rajabari Khel Pathar in Teok, which is part of the Mariani Legislative Assembly Constituency in Jorhat district, Dr. Sarma responded to Saikia’s recent comment about wearing a lungi by suggesting that individuals who don lungis should reside in Bangladesh.
Furthermore, he accused Gaurav Gogoi of avoiding Assam during the Bohag Bihu festival out of fear of having to contribute financially. The Chief Minister also claimed that by September, he would provide evidence that Gogoi had traveled to Pakistan for a duration of 15 days without informing anyone. Regarding the Orunodoi scheme, the Chief Minister announced an expansion to include an additional 4,000 women in each of the four legislative assembly constituencies of Teok, Mariani, Titabar, and Jorhat within Jorhat district. He also stated that by June, each Self Help Group would receive a financial aid of Rs 10,000.
Additionally, the Chief Minister revealed that boys would now be included in the Nijut Moina scheme starting from the degree level, whereas currently only girls receive financial assistance ranging from Rs 1,000 to 2,500 at the school level to combat child marriage. The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, former Jorhat MP Topan Gogoi, Jorhat MLA Jitendra Nath Goswami, Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi, and BJP Jorhat district President Shantanu Pujari.
