Eviction campaign aimed at reclaiming encroached land along the Assam-Nagaland border

KHERONI: An eviction initiative is scheduled to commence along the Assam-Nagaland border to eliminate encroachments in the Bokajan-Lahorijan section of National Highway (NH) 39, situated within the Bokajan Revenue Circle of Karbi Anglong. Numerous encroachers have been noted setting up camp with their possessions along the highway that links Dimapur to Golaghat town. This represents the second eviction initiative in the area, following a prior operation at Dudu Colony.

Dr. Numal Momin, Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, underscored a firm position, asserting that ‘not a single inch of land will be allocated to questionable outsiders’ and that the residences of drug traffickers will be demolished without delay.

The Assam Government, led by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, has been proactively executing eviction initiatives throughout the state, maintaining that encroachments will not be accepted. The government asserts that it has carried out at least one eviction operation in every district, discouraging individuals from occupying encroached land. Dr. Momin also tackled the problem of waterlogging, which has inflicted considerable damage to roads adjacent to the Assam-Nagaland border. He instructed the Chief Engineer of Assam and officials from the Bokajan and Barpathar divisions to carry out repairs and construction to address the situation.

He further guaranteed that encroached lands on both sides of All Lahorijan NH 39 and government properties will be cleared shortly. Dr. Momin was joined by nominated MAC Mukut Mahanta, Kakumoni Saikia, SDO (Civil) of Bokajan, and law enforcement agencies during his visit to the region.
