Guwahati: In a touching homage to Assam’s cultural figure, Gauhati University has declared that its Centre for Performing Arts and Culture will be renamed in honor of the late singer-composer Zubeen Garg, who sadly passed away in Singapore on September 19.
This decision is part of four proposals approved by the university to celebrate the legacy of the iconic artist. A statue of Garg will be erected in front of the center, and a coffee table book detailing his life and artistic journey will also be published. Furthermore, to inspire future generations of musicians, the university will establish a special category named ‘Zubeen’s Songs’ in the singing competition conducted during its annual inter-college youth festival.
Officials stated that these initiatives demonstrate the university’s dedication to preserving Garg’s enduring contributions to Assamese and Indian music, ensuring that his impact continues to inspire young talents for many years ahead.
