Golaghat in Assam prepares for the counting of votes on May 11

In Bokakhat, the counting of votes for the Panchayat election conducted on May 2 in the Golaghat district is scheduled for May 11. The counting for eight Zila Parishad constituencies in Golaghat and Khumtai will occur at Golaghat Engineering College. Meanwhile, the four constituencies in Sarupathar will have their counting at Sarupathar Higher Secondary School. For the Bokakhat legislative constituency, the vote counting will be held at Bokakhat Higher Secondary School, and for the Dergaon constituency, it will take place at Dergaon Higher Secondary School.

According to the State Election Commission’s directive, the vote counting for all Zila Parishads in the district will commence at 8 AM on May 11. Consequently, all strong rooms in the district will be opened at 7 AM in the presence of authorized officials. Preparations at all centers are nearly finalized to ensure a secure and orderly vote counting process. Separate counting rooms have been established based on Zila Parishad divisions, with eight rooms designated at Golaghat Engineering College for Golaghat and Khumtai, and four rooms each allocated at Sarupathar, Bokakhat, and Dergaon for their respective counting activities.

On the day designated for counting, postal ballots will be prioritized, commencing at 8 AM. In Golaghat and Khumtai, a total of 180 postal ballots will be processed at Golaghat Engineering College. Likewise, 62 postal ballots for Dergaon, 121 for Bokakhat, and 154 for Sarupathar will be counted at their respective locations. To facilitate the efficient execution of this crucial vote-counting event, the district administration has implemented extensive measures. A total of 2,204 personnel have been assigned throughout the district for this task, serving in roles such as vote counting supervisors, assistants, micro-observers, and support staff. Specifically, 940 personnel have been designated for Golaghat and Khumtai, while 384 each have been allocated to Bokakhat and Dergaon, and 496 to Sarupathar.

Additional staff members are on standby as required. Election observers appointed by the State Election Commission will also be present at the counting centers to monitor the entire process according to Zila Parishad divisions. The district administration has organized multiple training sessions to adequately prepare all personnel for their assigned responsibilities. It is noteworthy that voter turnout on May 2 was recorded as follows: 74.70% in Golaghat, 72.16% in Khumtai, 74.05% in Bokakhat, 76.50% in Dergaon, and 67.43% in Sarupathar. The overall turnout for the district was 72.86%, with male participation at 72%, female participation at 74%, and other genders at 8%.

The Panchayat elections took place for 20 Zila Parishads, 108 Anchalik Panchayat members, and 1,080 Gaon Panchayat members. A total of 49 candidates competed for the 20 Zila Parishad positions, while 216 candidates vied for the 108 Anchalik Panchayat seats, and 2,385 candidates contended for the 1,080 Gaon Panchayat positions. Notably, 113 candidates in the Gaon Panchayats and 11 in the Anchalik Panchayats were elected without opposition.
