A water pipe leakage has been reported near Mahabir Akhara on Pandu Port Road in Guwahati. Repairs are ongoing, with authorities investigating the cause and extent of the damage.
GUWAHATI: A leakage of a water pipe was reported near Mahabir Akhara on Pandu Port Road in Guwahati at around 12:05 PM on February 27. The commuters and locals have been concerned about possible traffic jams.
Municipal authorities and emergency services have been notified, and teams are set to visit the site and start repair works. The cause of the leakage and the extent of the damage are still under investigation.
Meanwhile, earlier this year, a massive pipeline burst in Kharguli left 28 families homeless, causing extensive damage and raising fears of potential landslides in the area. The sudden flow of water flooded homes, washed away belongings, and forced residents to evacuate in haste.
Another resident remembered the ordeal, stating, “We barely had time to gather essentials. The water carried away everything in its path.” For providing relief to the disaster victims, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) had set up a relief camp at Lalsingh Academy to provide shelter, food, and other basic amenities to the relatives.
In another similar incident that occurred earlier last year, leakage of water supply pipes was reported in the Geetanagar area, causing heavy wastage of water and traffic jams. The situation led technicians to act swiftly to contain the leak. But residents have complained about the recurrence of such incidents, particularly after a similar leak in Hatigarh earlier caused a water supply suspension. The residents demanded better infrastructure and maintenance to avoid the issues from recurring.
