In Sootea, eight individuals involved in cattle theft have been apprehended

In Jamugurihat, a police team led by the Assistant Superintendent of Police and the Deputy Superintendent of Police from the Superintendent of Police’s office in Biswanath, along with a contingent from Sootea Police Station under the leadership of Officer In-Charge Trilochan Das, successfully apprehended seven cattle thieves and an accomplice of the cattle theft ring on Saturday evening.

The individuals arrested were identified as Shariful Islam (28 years) from Ghahigaon; Mehbub Ali (29 years) from Ghahigaon; Mojibur Sarkar (40 years) from Sadai Borah Village; Anowar Hussain (27 years) from Bhuyanpara; Nur Haque Ali (35 years) from Kherbari; Mahesh Khodal (36 years) from No. 2 Tangia; Bolaram Majhi (45 years) from No. 2 Tangia; and the agent Jun Ali (28 years) from Saraijania. The police recovered two heads of cattle from their possession. It is important to note that a total of seven heads of cattle were reported stolen from a resident of Khanaguri village on April 25.

The Sootea Police faced significant criticism from local residents due to their inability to curb the rising incidents of cattle theft. In response to the concerns raised by the victims and the local community, the Biswanath Police, in conjunction with the Sootea Police, conducted a thorough search operation on April 26, resulting in the arrest of the cattle thieves and their accomplice. The families of the victims and community members commended the prompt actions taken by the Biswanath Police. A case has been registered under case number 39/2025, citing violations of US 61(2)/305(a)/317(4)/3(5) of BNS 2023, and the suspects have been detained.
