Guwahati: In the aftermath of a tragic road accident that occurred on the evening of April 9 at Lalmati on NH-27, resulting in the loss of two lives, the Basistha Police have initiated legal proceedings under Case No. 208/25. The driver of the dumper involved in the incident, identified as Raju Boro from Boko, has been apprehended.
This arrest was prompted by initial investigations that highlighted the severity of the collision, which involved a total of five vehicles, including a dumper, two scooters, a Swift car, and a Fortuner. Following his arrest, the driver was presented in court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. According to official reports, the investigation is still in progress, with police examining whether the dumper was equipped with a functioning speed governor, a device designed to restrict vehicle speed, at the time of the accident.
Furthermore, authorities are working to ascertain the precise speed of the dumper prior to the collision. A specialized crash investigation team, consisting of representatives from various road safety departments, has already conducted a site visit to analyze the potential causes of the accident, which may include technical malfunctions, human error, and the condition of the roadway. Officials have committed to conducting a thorough investigation, assuring the public that any individuals found responsible will face legal consequences.
