KOKRAJHAR: In a new development, an alternative political outfit is likely to be formed very soon in BTC by a group of leaders including ex-NDFB to topple down the present BTR Government led by Pramod Boro.

Talking to reporters in Kokrajhar on the sideline of distribution of rehabilitation cheques to ex-NDFB members on Sunday last, EM of BTC Ranjit Basumatary, who was the general secretary before joining politics, said that the proposed new political outfit by a group was inspired by vested individuals to fulfil their selfish interests and that the new political party has no holistic objectives. He said that a political outfit was likely to be floated by certain members of ex-NDFB alleging that the present BTC Government had failed to take measures to rehabilitate ex-NDFB members. He called upon all the ex-NDFB members not to be misled by individuals of vested interests. He also said that there was no necessity to float an alternative political party to intensify pressure on the government to implement all the clauses of the BTR Accord and rehabilitation of ex-NDFB members.

Basumatary said that altogether 363 cases against the NDFB cadres have been withdrawn, 4,793 cadres have been rehabilitated so far while only 300 ex-BLT cadres got rehabilitated in 17 years of the BPF-led government in BTC. He said that out of over 1200 cases, as many as 263 have been withdrawn while initiative was taken for the release of 64 jailed NDFB leaders. He also said that heinous crime cases of NDFB leaders were being tackled by the council government in association with former NDFB leaders of different factions.

Meanwhile, ABSU President Dipen Boro, in his speech, said that the complete rehabilitation of ex- NDFB members was part of the BTR Accord. He said that the governments of Assam and BTR had been sincere in implementing the clauses of the BTR Accord in a speedy manner. He also said that many former cadres of different militant groups have not received the rehabilitation grant but all the ex- NDFB cadres have been given complete rehabilitation.
