Actress and singer Saba Azad expresses her joy regarding the increasing trend in the entertainment industry towards more inclusive and gender-sensitive narratives. Sharing her insights on the changing environment for women in film and OTT platforms, Saba, recognized for her diverse choices as both an actress and a musician, stated, “I believe things are improving, and I’m pleased to be part of this transformation.” She further remarked: “Decision-makers are acknowledging women as a significant portion of the audience and are finally crafting stories that resonate with the female demographic.
Although we still have a considerable journey ahead, this is a positive beginning. Saba’s recent work, “Bandar (Monkey In A Cage),” was featured in the Special Presentations section at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). “Bandar” delves into themes of power, trauma, and memory, centering on the narrative of a superstar accused of rape, thereby shedding light on the injustices present within the legal system.
Produced by Nikhil Dwivedi and directed by Anurag Kashyap, “Bandar” also stars Bobby Deol, Sanya Malhotra, and Sapna Pabbi in prominent roles. She was recently featured in ‘Songs of Paradise,’ a tribute to Raj Begum’s inspiring music and journey, enhanced by the soulful composition of Abhay Sopori and the vocals of Masrat Un Nissa, which bring to life the rich musical heritage and the enchanting scenery of the valley. Presented by Excel Entertainment and produced by Apple Tree Pictures Production and Renzu Films Production, ‘Songs of Paradise’ is now available for streaming on Prime Video.
Following the release of “Songs Of Paradise,” Saba’s partner and actor Hrithik Roshan praised her on Instagram. Hrithik commented: “The heartfelt acclaim I’m hearing from all around for the creators, technicians, and artists involved with Songs Of Paradise is genuinely uplifting. I viewed this film in its rough cut several months ago, and I recall being profoundly moved. Tears filled my eyes with such deep affection, particularly for the character of Zeba.
He remarked, “The tremendous applause this film is receiving today has rejuvenated my unwavering faith in the universe. You reap what you sow. And you @sabazad, for the remarkable artist you are and for the beautiful art you produce, are worthy of all the accolades coming your way..”
“I have witnessed your struggles, the feelings of helplessness, the frustrations, and the pain that so many talented artists endure – yearning for the fundamental right to opportunities that true talent merits in an industry that prioritizes ‘followers’ over the ‘actor’. Therefore, today I experience the exhilaration of pure joy as I see you receiving what you rightfully deserve.”
“And you, my dear, are deserving of the world and beyond. This performance ranks among my top 10 performances of all time. Hrithik concluded the post with a heartfelt confession that stated, ‘Rock on baby. My heart is full. I love you.’
