Northern India is hit by cold waves and thick fog. States such as Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana have some of the coldest winters. Schools in those states have been ordered to remain closed until January 14th. Haryana and Chandigarh have extended their winter holidays winter vacations till January 21., while other states such as Delhi and Uttar Pradesh have not announced any renewals so far. According to his IMD weather forecast from the Department of Meteorology of India, northern India should prepare for another cold spell as winter peaks on January 15-16 with the lowest temperatures.
