Guwahati: In a significant development regarding the ongoing investigation into the death of singer Zubeen Garg, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has detained and questioned Anita Deka Mahanta, the wife of the accused, Shyamkanu Mahanta.
As per sources, Anita Deka Mahanta was taken into custody by the SIT following her visit to her husband at the CID lockup, where he has been held since his arrest on October 1. This marks the first instance in which the SIT has formally interrogated her in relation to the case. Anita was reportedly in Singapore with her husband during the time of Zubeen Garg’s unfortunate death on September 19, when the singer was participating in the North East India Festival.
Previously, there had been growing public criticism regarding the SIT’s delay in questioning her, considering her position as a director in her husband’s organization. Sources suggest that the interrogation concentrated on her involvement in the circumstances surrounding Zubeen’s death and her professional ties with Shyamkanu Mahanta.
The SIT is anticipated to persist in questioning Anita Deka Mahanta as part of its broadening investigation into this high-profile case that has captivated the state.
