Special trains are being operated between Silchar and New Haflong to assist stranded passengers

SILCHAR: In a swift reaction to the proposal made by Rajya Sabha MP Kanad Purkayastha to the NF Railway General Manager Chetan Srivastava, two special trains will operate between Silchar and New Haflong over the next two days to alleviate the burden on passengers.

On Thursday, the special train is scheduled to leave Silchar at 6 PM, arriving in New Haflong at 10:30 PM. Likewise, the train is set to depart from New Haflong at 11:30 PM on Thursday, reaching Silchar at 4 AM on Friday. Furthermore, the special train will leave Silchar at 6 AM on Friday, with the return train from New Haflong scheduled to commence at 9:30 AM.

MP Purkayastha noted that the hill section had suffered significant damage due to landslides near Mupa, which affected the train service between Silchar and Guwahati. Consequently, hundreds of passengers have been stranded for several days. Nevertheless, the road connectivity from Haflong to Lumding remains relatively good. Therefore, for passengers urgently needing to travel between Silchar and Guwahati, the special trains operating between Silchar and New Haflong will provide substantial assistance.
