Assam Government Approves Land for New Assembly Complex in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH: In a significant advancement towards decentralizing governance in Assam, the site for the new Assam Legislative Assembly building and the MLA residential complex has been officially confirmed at Khanikar in Dibrugarh.

This ambitious initiative is projected to be completed by mid-2027, representing a crucial milestone in the state’s infrastructure development agenda. During a recent site visit, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma assessed the progress and provided instructions to ensure that all essential modern amenities are incorporated into the forthcoming assembly complex.

The project aims to establish Dibrugarh as Assam’s second capital, thereby bringing administrative functions closer to Upper Assam. Additionally, the project encompasses the construction of a circuit house featuring 75 rooms for government officials, situated next to the assembly building. This development is anticipated to improve administrative accessibility and facilitate governance in the region.

Once operational, Dibrugarh will host two sessions of the Assam Assembly each year, which is expected to enhance governance and stimulate economic activities in the area. Furthermore, this initiative aligns with the government’s broader objectives to tackle pressing local challenges, such as artificial floods, and to foster balanced regional development. This pivotal development is viewed as a transformative opportunity for Upper Assam, potentially unlocking new avenues for growth and progress.
