The Indian Army has reported that the Golden Temple was protected from missiles launched by Pakistan

In Amritsar, the Indian Army conducted a demonstration on Monday showcasing how Indian air defense systems, particularly the Akash missile system, protected the Golden Temple, the most sacred site of Sikhism, as well as various cities in Punjab from missile and drone assaults by Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. The Army also displayed remnants of intercepted Pakistani missiles and drones.

Major General Kartik C Seshadri, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 15th Infantry Division, stated that Pakistan attempted to strike the Golden Temple in Amritsar with drones and missiles on the night of May 7-8, in retaliation for India’s attacks on nine terrorist locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. He noted that Pakistan lacked legitimate military targets and was likely to target civilian and religious sites in India.

‘We were fully prepared as we anticipated this, and our vigilant and courageous army air defense personnel successfully thwarted the Pakistan Army’s malicious intentions, shooting down all drones and missiles aimed at the Golden Temple,’ the officer was quoted as saying. Amit Malviya, from the BJP’s National Information and Technology Department, expressed on X, ‘The Indian Army’s confirmation of drone and missile attacks aimed at the Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) is both alarming and profoundly unsettling.’ He emphasized, ‘This highlights the true motives of Pakistan’s military establishment and its affiliates — to instigate chaos and undermine the very essence of India.

No genuine Sikh, whose beliefs and identity are founded on justice, sacrifice, and love for the nation, would ever support a state like Pakistan, which has repeatedly proven to be an adversary of peace, faith, and humanity. The targeting of the holiest shrine of Sikhism reveals the moral and strategic emptiness of Pakistan’s actions. Sikhs worldwide should recognize this for what it is: an assault not only on a religious site but on the very unity of India and the sanctity of Sikh heritage,’ Malviya added.
