United Tribal Organizations, Assam (UTOA) calls upon the Chief Minister to expedite the SIR process in tribal areas and blocks

KOKRAJHAR: The United Tribal Organizations, Assam (UTOA) has expressed its approval regarding the initiation of the Special Intensive Review (SIR) process by the State Election Commission of Assam, aimed at identifying illegal voters within the state.
President of UTOA, Markus Basumatary, stated that the State Election Commission is committed to ensuring the integrity of electoral rolls through the SIR in Assam. He emphasized that this initiative should be implemented in every tribal belt and block, where numerous illegal settlers have been unlawfully exercising their voting rights. He noted that there are 47 tribal belts and blocks throughout Assam, and a significant area of tribal land has been unlawfully occupied by individuals from non-protected classes. He called upon Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma to take decisive action against illegal settlers in these tribal areas and to revoke the voting rights of those who lack any records of existence prior to the establishment of tribal belts and blocks in 1948.

Basumatary also conveyed his appreciation and best wishes to BPF president Hagrama Mohilary and his team, who are set to form the next government of the BTC on October 5.
